Carbon fiber is a material, similar in form to cloth but very strong, made out of crystalline filaments of carbon atoms bonded in long chains. It is used in the production of padel rackets due to its low weight and durability. Carbon fiber normally forms the tube that forms the outer structure of the racket face as well as the surface of the racket.

Thread count: 3K, 12K, 18K or 24K?

What do all these K numbers mean?

Carbon fiber is constructed like a fabric with groups, tows, of threads spun together. The fewer the threads per tow, the larger the carbon threads are, and the more rigid the resulting carbon is.

This is why 3K carbon fiber is harder than 12K, and 12K is more rigid than 18K, and so on.

Notably, some manufacturers’ marketing departments (e.g. Nox), think that a larger number “sounds harder,” so they decided to artbitrarily invert these numbers. So the Nox 18K rackets are, in fact, harder thatn the 12Ks.
